here's an articles i found on line:

Quote:
Today is another sad day for Trek fans, TrekMovie was just informed by the Roddenberry family that Majel Barrett Roddenberry passed away this morning at the age of 76. The first lady of Star Trek’ died of leukemia at her home in Bel Air. At her side were her son Eugene ‘Rod’ Roddenberry along with family and friends.

Barrett-Roddenberry: an unforgettable legacy
Majel Barrett began her career in the 1950’s with roles in such popular shows as "Leave it to Beaver," "Bonanza" and "The Lucy Show; but it was her numerous roles in the legendary Star Trek franchise that fans came to know and love her. Roddenberry had featured roles in almost every Star Trek television and film entity and became an iconic figure within the fan community. Her roles included Nurse Chapel in Star Trek: The Original Series, Lwaxana Troi in Star Trek: The Next Generation and the voice of the USS Enterprise computer in almost every incarnation of the series. However, it was the love affair between her and the late Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry that earned her the title "The First Lady of Star Trek." Over the course of their more then quarter-century love affair, she became not only Gene’s partner, but also his creative muse. Roddenberry helped Gene expand the Star Trek universe and was an integral part of its continued legacy after his death. Majel recently completed reprising her role as the voice of the USS Enterprise for J.J. Abrams’ new Star Trek film.

Roddenberry succumbed to a short battle with Leukemia at 12:27 AM on December 18 in her Bel-Air home. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her son Rod Roddenberry and family friends. She is survived by her only son Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry Jr. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to the CARE Organization or Precious Paws both of which share Roddenberry’s love for animals and dedication to animal rescue.

Funeral details are pending and a public memorial will be scheduled sometime after Christmas or in early 2009.
More on Majel and her contributions to Star Trek at Memory Alpha.

TrekMovie in mourning
On behalf of the entire team here at TrekMovie, I would like to extend my sympathies to Rod and the entire Roddenberry family. The only solace there is at a time like this is knowing that Majel has brought so much happiness to the world through her work, that will never be forgotten. Today, TrekMovie wears black to honor the legacy and memory of Majel Barrett Roddenberry. We will publish no more stories today (except related to Majel) as nothing can be more important right now.

I was thinking the same thing, thus I wasn't sure to say anything or not. Except I send virtual hugs to Rod on this day. I wish I knew what else to say. I feel for him though.

I realize this is a tad late, but I would like to add my deepest condolences. I only saw her in the show, but she seemed like a bright and vibrant woman. She always seemed so genuine in her acting. They say you are not a good actor without bringing a piece of yourself to the role. I think she brought her whole self to the roles that she played. I recall Rod mentioning when he came to Vulcan that the writers had to write Lwaxanna Troi around her personality. I'm sure she is greatly missed by everyone who knew her, and those who didn't. Her spirit shall live on forever.

The Great Bird of the Galaxy and The First Lady of Star Trek together once again.

condolences

I never had the opportunity to meet Majel Roddenberry but did meet her son Rod in June of this year in Vulcan Alberta where he unveiled a tribute to his dad. He had such lovely things to say about his mother and I feel the sadness in knowing that he has now lost both parents. Every year at Trek conventions I would dress as Nurse Chapel and had done much research and learned how important she truly was from the beginnings of Trek to not only Star Trek but to her family. My deepest condolences to Rod and all those who knew and loved her.

Our Deepest Heartfelt Sympthies & Prayers For you now, Rod

Rod,

Your mother and father were my biggest inspiration when I decided to act. I didn't work up the nerve until 2001 to move out to Hollywood and when I did I was fortunate to work on the fifth Star Trek series "Enterprise".

I don't know if you recall a phone conversation we had in 2006 - you were supportive of a sci fi tv show we were trying to get produced called "Starfighters: The Praetorian Issue"?

At any rate, please know that Timothy Raynor and myself share your loss and are keeping you in our prayers to find comfort in knowing that your mom is still with you, as your father is.

I lost my own dad June 2007 to lung cancer and even now it is hard to visualize being without their physical presence yet there have been many occasions when I knew he was watching out for me and helping me in my time of need.

Again, you have our heartfelt sympathies in this time of sadness.

May God Bless & Keep You Safe,
Tracey Anne Kimball

"Rod",
It is a big regret for me, because i'm not young, virtually grew up with the passion of these people for their work (and their dreams), assimilation a small part... obviously.

On the other hand there is your family tragedy for a loss so heavy.

A Great Women

Rod,

I was shocked and saddened when I read about this in my paper yesterday morning. I have followed her from the beginning as Number One, to Nurse Chapel, Lwaxanna Troy and all the way thru the years. Even on Babylon 5 as Lady Morella.....what a treat that was when she showed up there. Truly a talented actress and later on Producer, Gene must have been smiling from the heavens above at her acomplishments as the years progressed
My thoughts and condolences to you and your family. There are no words that can soften the loss only good memories of a woman who was outstanding and stood high above the rest. May she find peace and joy as she moves beyond the rim for what new journies await her.

Peace
Cheryl

Never to be Forgotten

I wept like a baby when I read that she had passed. I know she is now with her beloved Gene, but those of us left will still wish she hadn't left us so soon. Rod, I know the pain of losing a mom and I send you my deepest sympathies. It's all up to you now, so keep their dream alive and true to their vision.
